A thin piece of rock is called "rock flakes."When you look at the lava "flakes” from Sakurajima with a polarizing microscope it doesn't appear to be lava or volcanic ash, but instead a spread of sparkling minerals like a kaleidoscope.

"Tephra" is the Greek word for "volcanic ejecta". The volcanic ash that floats down from Sakurajima, as well as the lava, contains the same minerals which make up gemstones. The brand "tephra" makes accessories using volcanic ash, with the concept "In Kagoshima, gems fall from the sky." The charm portion is made with volcanic ash, lamé, and holograms in a resin base. It expresses the beautiful world of lava rock flakes.
